Boggy Draw and Phil’s World

Boggy Draw

We moved on from Bears Ears and settled in Cortez, Colorado for the week. Both of us were pretty eager to mountain bike so we hit up the Boggy Draw trail network for a few hours of singletrack. We find a lot of our riding on either Trailforks or MtbProject, both great apps! The trails in the Boggy Draw area are fairly smooth and there isn’t much elevation change, for our 19 mile ride, there was 1500′ climbing. Italian Canyon was my favorite loop, it got us out on the hillside with great views of flowers and snowy mountains.

After riding we stopped in at Dolores River Brewing Company. I never know what to expect from breweries in small towns. Dolores River Brewing Company had an IPA, an ESB, and a Munich lager we really liked. It was a really friendly place and we chatted with a handful of like minded people that made us feel very welcome.

Phil’s World

I’d heard from a few people that the trails at Phil’s World were fun, they weren’t wrong. We rode a big 23 mile loop with 2300′ climb that encompassed most of the trails in the network. These trails are one way so you don’t have to worry about oncoming riders which is nice. There was a good mix of easy smooth fast trails, rock ledges and twistier trails, fast bermed high speed rollercoaster parts and then one black diamond section.
For the last 25 minutes we were hammering to get back to the safety of our truck before the thunder and lightening storm caught us. We did it! About 10 minutes later there was a torrential downpour to the point we had to yell to each other while we were sitting in the truck. Phew!!!!
