Sheep Creek Loop took a bit of a drive but seemed worth it. This was a very remote loop that, at 14 miles, was short enough to count as an easy day after the 4000 feet of climbing the day before. The loop had a much more primative feel and doesn’t get anywhere near the amount of traffic as the Colorado Trail. It had the usual swooping trail through aspen forests, rocky singletrack along creeks, and snomy mountain views. We didn’t see anybody the whole ride.
For lunch we took a picnic to “the beach” so Fletcher could swim. It’s a little water spot in Fairplay. Afterwards, we walked around the restores 1880’s mining town of South Park, and along the main street in old town Fairplay. An ecclectic assortment of shops, restaurants and bars line the road and make for a great stroll, though it does cost $10 to get in the old South Park town.
Over on the new side of town we found South Park Brewery. It seemed like something we should try, so we did. It’s a huge warehouse looking place with a long bar. Of the beers we drank, I liked the Juicy IPA the best, but none of the beers really knocked my socks off.
Back at camp we’ve been spending afternoons lazing it up, kicked back in our chairs under the shade and reading. Today we did the same.
