After a couple months boondocking at family property in Tucson, we struck out on the road for more adventure. We passed the 2 year full time traveling mark back on January 12 and are ready for more. Fattened up with fancy breakfast, lunch, snacks, dinners and drinks from our vacation from vacation, we are back in Gold Canyon, AZ boondocking on state trust land. We’ve been here before and love it. Our spot is VERY quiet except for the coyotes yipping. Better yet, we’re on a big trail network for riding and hiking with amazing views of the Superstitions.
My elbow tendonitis still bothers me so I’m hiking instead of riding. Day one Derek rode a loop from camp and I hiked separately. The trails vary and there are a lot of options for loops depending on how long you want to be out there. The highlight of Derek’s day was K-Trail, a twisty turny descent through a rock walled arroyo. My hike featured Quartz Ridge which I remember riding and loving last year. It’s very narrow and semi-technical on a bike and much easier to hike. I had a great time out in the warm winter sun with perfect weather and gorgeous views.
For Christmas Derek got the cookbook Taste of Tucson and tested out a recipe last night. We had chicken and rice with a roasted poblano goat cheese sauce. YUM!! I’ve included a picture of Derek outside in his element at the grill.
