We are totally digging grocery pick-up. Since last February that is how we’ve been getting our groceries and I’m not sure I ever want to go back in a store again. We place an order every two weeks or so which works great because we move boondocking spots every 14 days. Our pickup was in Indio so we found a hike there to do in the morning.
Our hike out into the badlands and up into the rocky slot canyon was 6 miles. The first part is out across some sandy scrublands to get to the foothills. After this the hike is up through sandstone slot canyons, tight crevasses and up steep switchbacks to the ridge. The view up here of the Cochella Valley is pretty sweet.
The ridge is the highpoint and from here on we descended down to the valley floor. Again, the trail winds through the canyon of intricate rocks. Back into the wash, we completed the loop. I read that this hike gets busy but we spent most of it alone. It probably is a mad house on the weekends since it’s so close to town.
Today is moving day which is my least favorite day because I have to sit for hours. Usually we try to keep moving days to just a few hours but this is a longer haul. To lessen the pain we splurged and have a bag of chips for the trip. Living wild I tell ya.
