We got an early start one morning and hiked up to the Rim Overlook. This hike shares a parking lot with the Hickman Bridge Trail which is very popular but luckily after a little more than a quarter mile our trail branched off and we had a nice quiet hike without any company.
Our hike was 5 miles with 1168′ of climbing so not too difficult at all and I’d recommend it. The hike begins by hugging the bank of the Fremont River and passing by some scary looking rock fall that actually closed the trail for quite a few months back in 2013. The hike climbs gradually, never very steep and a lot of it is on rock. We stopped to look down at the Hickman Bridge and then kept going to the Overlook.
From the Overlook you can see Fruita with the fruit orchards, all 22 switchbacks of Cohab Trail, Sulphur Creek Canyon and the Henry Mountains. It’s a very rewarding view! If you want to hike more, the trail continues to Navajo Knob but we turned around and headed back the way we came.
