After spending a couple weeks in Capitol Reef National Park we moved to a new boondocking spot outside Goblin Valley State Park by Hanksville, Utah. Our new spot is nice and private tucked into a little alcove surrounded by rocks. Since we didn’t move very far we had time in the afternoon to get a short hike in.
Wild Horse Window hike is about 2 miles round trip though you can add a lot on by wandering around. After a short descent down and across the wash, the hike ascends rock faces for most of the time. There is no official trail, just some rock cairns every once in awhile. It helped to have the Alltrails App map downloaded because you can only see the destination from the parking area.
The destination is a massive natural bridge with two chambers and a skylight. The skylight measures 35 by 22 feet and is quite impressive. We walked up into the cave and sat at the top to take it all in. Luckily we had the place to ourselves and really enjoyed just sitting in the silence and staring up. I highly recommend this short hike.
