We spend time in Tucson every winter enjoying family and warm weather so a lot of our posts aren’t about new rides. The Arizona National Scenic Trail is a complete non-motorized path, stretching 800 diverse miles across Arizona from Mexico to Utah and it’s awesome. Over the years we have ridden quite a bit of it and we love it. This section starts south of Tucson at the intersection of Senoita Highway and Sahuarita Road and heads south into canyons. We rode it as an out and back with the total ride being 20.4 miles with 1630′ of climbing. People think the desert here is flat. It’s not. Our ride topped out at close to 4600′.
I’d give this section an intermediate rating for the loose rock sections and the tight maneuvering around every pokey thing along the trail. There is, however plenty of easier sections on the ride that are fast and flowy. I like the remote feel of this ride as not many people ride all the way out here. The addition of a couple cattle ramp crossings helps the flow because several sections of the AZ Trail get rather bogged down with constantly opening and closing gates.
We are spoiled with the temps..I saw a day this week that is supposed to dip below 70. We’re gonna freeze! 🙂
