The newly built Sierra Vista Trail in Patagonia replaces a crappy road section that connected the Arizona Trail. It’s called that on Trailforks but I just think of it as an extension of the Temporal Gulch section that Derek rode the other day. This time, starting from the same Casa Blanca Trailhead, the ride was out and back. 18.1 miles with 1855′ of climbing.
This trail has the same characteristics of the section of Temporal Gulch AZT across the highway. It starts with a ride through a section of private ranch and quickly starts a gentle climb. There aren’t any giant climbs on this ride with the biggest being about 3 miles and 619 feet. Instead, there are a bunch of smaller climbs that all add up. This isn’t a technical trail, just good old fashioned cross country riding.
It’s dry grasslands for the most part and I can see where this would be SCORCHING hot in the summer but on a nice spring day like when we were there, it was ideal. While Derek rode, I hiked part of it and was in shorts and short sleeves. It’s quiet out there, I didn’t see anyone else.
