We’re here in San Diego visiting family for a couple weeks and got in a bike ride along the San Luis Rey River Trail out to Oceanside. We’ve ridden this path before and it’s a nice quiet stretch that gets you off the street and out of traffic. The out and back was 21 miles and while I wish it was longer, but it makes for a pleasant ride.
This path is paved the whole way, although we added some dirt trails around nearby Guajome Lake. It’s fairly flat without big climbs or descents which sometimes actually makes a ride seem harder because you’re constantly pedaling. When the trail ended in Oceanside we rode along to watch the waves and enjoy the sunshine.
