Derek and I finally rode some of the trails in Farmington, NM. We started in the BLM Glade Run Recreation Area, featuring 19,000 acres of slick rock, rolling terrain, and sandy arroyos. This is high desert so there is a lot of sage, pinon pine and juniper. It being a weekday, we didn’t see any other riders all day.
A big annual bike race called the Road Apple Rally Race is held here. It’s called that because early mountain bikers had to swerve to avoid “road apples,” which is a slang term for horse manure. It’s a fun course with some great views and plenty of interesting singletrack. We also rode Wild Bill Ridge, which is a skinny snaking singletrack that blasts downhill towards Farmington. If you are bothered by some exposure, I would skip this one.
Tomorrow we’re hiking out at Bisti Badlands and I’m excited. It looks quite interesting, so stay tuned!
