Waaay back in the day, Derek and I raced mountain bikes at Vail Lake as part of the Team Big Bear California Series. It was a smaller venue with a lot fewer trails then there are now. Vailocity Bike Park boasts 30+ miles of singletrack designed for all levels of riders. We visited one day to ride and reminisce.
The downside? It now costs $10/person to ride here. We coughed up the funds begrudgingly and off we went. Right away we were a little lost. This place lacks signage for the most part. Once we found our uphill trail it was navigational easy as long as you use a trail app. Go uphill, then go downhill. The new trails are really fund with flowing single track, technical downhill, and leg smashing climbs. None of the trails are very long but linked together you can get some good mileage in.
After our ride we went down to the lake to check it out. Wow, the water level is so low that it’s closed to everything but fishing. No boats allowed…not even kayaks or paddle boards. You can still fish from the shore or hike around, but that’s it.
