Weaver Basin has over 70 miles of trails and we incorporated some new to us ones this ride.
The new to us McKenzie Gulch Loop might be my new favorite little add on at only 3 miles. It has a decent climb and then some fast fun switchbacks and berms. I’ve never seen anyone else on it, though we have only ever come across one other rider all the times we’ve been out here in the Weaver Trail Network. The forest feels more remote on this little loop and it was a bit spooky under the dark cover of trees in some spots.
This wasn’t our entire ride though. We crossed over Weaver Bally Road and did a few other loops. It seemed like a lot of climbing this day and we were pretty tired so we kept the miles low. Looking back though, it was 13 miles with a little over 1800′ of climbing. The skies threatened rain but it never panned out.
For the descent, we came all the way down Jackass Ridge and hit Black Line instead of Blue Line this time. It’s black diamond but there is a go around on the two big jumps so it’s all rideable if you don’t want to leave the ground (I don’t). It is pretty steep in a few spots but it’s the tamest black I’ve ridden in a long time.
Not many pics this day 🙁
I love the riding in this network and it’s nice that there is something for everyone. We’ll get up even higher next time and ride some additional new trails. Woot woot!
