Many many years ago when we raced mountain bikes, Derek and did the La Grange Classic race in Weaverville, CA and loved it. We didn’t race this time, but we did ride the course the other day.
Big climbs, big views, some hike a bike across a stream, fun swoopy downhills… awesome route. This is a long one if you follow the Trailforks route, but you can shorten it in quite a few spots. The climb up Musser Hill Road is no joke, but it’s beautiful!!! The downhill has some tight switchbacks but they are fine if you’re used to them. So much fun.
The area around Musser Hill was heavily mined by prospectors for gold during gold rush times, leaving behind a legacy of flumes, mine tailings, and historic ditches. The Weaver Basin Trail Network incorporates those ditches in several of the trails. You can see me riding along one of them in the pics below. Very cool.
