Colorado Trail
We have ridden a lot of the Colorado Trail and just finished off the segment by Leadville that ends at Holy Cross Wilderness. Most riders skip this section since you have to do it as an out and back due to the wilderness. That’s a shame because it has some great technical sections and the wilderness at the end is amazing.
The ride stats: 21 miles, 2,259′ climbing. There is a 2 mile railroad grade section in the middle of the ride that is smooth and really fast followed by the climb to the wilderness boundary. Parts of this section are rocky and very challenging. We took a break at the top, hiked around to get some photos, and turned around. Coming back down was fast and furious.
Leadville 100
After the ride we stopped in Leadville to check out the Leadville 100 mountain bike race expo. We chatted with a couple vendors, and had a Periodic Brewing beer. I enjoyed the English Stout and Derek had a grapefruit IPA.
The next day, our friend Nate raced and placed 19th! Great finish for a race with over 1500 entrants. It was fun to cheer him on and catch up after the race.
