Mornings outside when the sun has just popped up over the mountains and creeps across the foothills is a favorite time for me. That or evenings when the sun casts a long orange tinted glow over everything. I can sit outside in my comfy chair just looking and admiring. But then, there are trails to ride!
From camp we rode Tom Mays Trail over to a trail network on Tom Mays Park. It’s a maze of singletrack so we stopped quite a few times to check the trail app. We put together a 17 mile loop with 2100′ of climbing that encompassed the best trails. There is A LOT of rock out there. Some of the trails like Espina Ledge and Granola Bowl are giant rocky slabs with technical steps and drops. This is definitely a fun trail system worth checking out.
Derek and I both liked the challenging loop we rode the first day, so we did a close variation of it again but ended by going down Agave Loop instead of the scree field on Mundy Gap. This variation made it 24 miles with 3,396′ of climbing. I can’t say enough good things about this loop! Yes, the brutal climb at the end is tough, but all these trails are challenging and fun.
