New route days! We’ve been riding the same handful of rides for the past couple weeks but with warmer weather, yesterday we headed higher up in the mountains on new routes. Our ride was 27 miles with 3200′ of climbing. Basically we climbed up Echo Basin for 13.5 miles and then turn around and descended.
This ride was drop dead beautiful. The mountains are just coming out of winter and snow was piled up when we got to around 9700′. We turned around at about 9800′ when it got muddy. Once we climbed past the ranches and farms into the forest, the road turned to gravel and the views opened up. The climb wound up and up through the trees with views of the surrounding snowy mountains. We are really lucky to get to spend time in such a beautiful place and it’s nice to ride right from the trailer each day.
The baby goats we pass every day on our rides are getting bigger, and more brave. They used to run bleating when we passed, now they just stare. On our ride the other day we passed a road that looked interesting so today we took it. Out of Echo Basin we turned right on Red Arrow Road and climbed up into the forest. This gravel road is a rough 4wd jeep road and steep with rocky sections! We hit snow earlier then yesterday so the ride was shorter in distance at 22 miles with 2578′ of climbing. Coming back down I definitely wished I was on my mountain bike. We’ll definitely do both these rides again and get further and further as the snow melts.
We got our new hood vent fan installed thankfully! No more loud squealing noises. As a bonus, it is twice as powerful as the one we (Derek) replaced.
