Last year when camping in this area we saw on a map that you could ride to the top of Menefee Mountain. Yesterday we checked it out and then some. We rode 16 miles and climbed 2042′ on our mountain bikes.
We rode the dirt/gravel road up to the top where the towers are and admired the view from 8,832′. Sweeping views of the valley below made it worth it. We turned back and further down we took a spur road. This took us deeper into the area and was quite rugged. Steep canyons carve through the area in finger like projections and it’s incredibly remote feeling. I could see evidence of the 2012 Weber fire throughout the area. The 10,000 acre fire was intentionally started by a juvenile and caused $5,000,000 in damages! It’s a wilderness study area that doesn’t seem to get much use but it’s beautiful. I would not have been surprised to see a bear or mountain lion.
Enjoy our pictures and we hope everyone is staying safe.
