Our new spot in Del Norte, CO is drastically different than our last spot. We’re still boondocking at about 7800′ but it’s high desert without all the trees and a river. We are off on our own in a large spot up against a little mesa and it’s very quiet.
From camp we mountain biked a 24 mile loop with 2310′ of climbing. The morning started off hazy but as the ride went on it cleared up. It gets warm here. Last night I did a hike from camp and at 5:00 it was 78 degrees. So, we got an earlyish start to our ride. The trails wind around and up onto several mesas, up gulches, and in through some extremely varied terrain. Our favorite trail was Deadman’s. It was surprising to see all the giant boulders rimming the canyon as well as some fir trees!
The best part is there was nobody else on any of the trails! I’m excited to see what our ride tomorrow is like. The map shows that we get to a high alpine lake. I love lakes.
