Starvation Creek Trail is fantastically primitive and challenging. We looped it by climbing up Marshall Pass, riding the Colorado Trail for a bit, and then hanging a left to descend Starvation Creek. What a beautiful loop! 24.5 miles with 3,206′ of climbing.
Marshall Pass is a fairly easy climb up a good gravel road. We took a side trip to check out Lake O’Haver and then continued on up. A few cars passed us but other than that, all we saw were some goats who were digging down into the middle of the road for something. They eyed us suspiciously but didn’t move as we rode by.
Up at the pass we found the singletrack and climbed on it a bit more before intersecting with Starvation Creek Trail. I activated my bear bell and down we went. The top part is pretty steep and loose before it dives down into the forest. The trail is very narrow and continues off camber in places and sidehills along the creek before dropping down into the drainage. It’s incredibly rocky in places but all rideable. I really really liked this descent.
It’s tough here because all the rides we do are hard. Looking ahead, there are at least 3 days of really big rides coming so tomorrow we’ll try to find something “easier”. We’ll see.
