As you can see from the last month or so of posts, we are in rock formation geek out area. Basically the only thing limiting you from seeing all sorts of things is your imagination. Today’s hike was a bit of a stretch though. We hiked 6.2 miles out to Doodlebug Arch and around through a colorful sandstone canyon past Amber Cat.
During our past couple years on the road we have seen all kinds of arches and bridges. Doodlebug Arch in Gold Butte National Monument was pretty small and tucked off a not very well traveled path. We hiked up a gravely wash and very nearly passed it before we turned around to admire the view and spotted it!
After the arch we wound around to Amber Cat Canyon. There are some baby slots to walk through back here and plenty of red rocks of course. I’m assuming this area has had a lot of water in its history because the walls are extremely smooth from sand and water erosion. When we got to the spot where Amber Cat was supposed to be we decided it looked more like snapping turtle. You be the judge.
