I’m impressed with the riding here in Pocatello. I know other people ride here but it has been days since we have seen anyone else on the trail. Perfect. Today we rode from camp and went around and up to the top of Scout Mountain. Our ride was tough at 14.4 miles with 2986′ of climbing but very scenic.
We started off on East Fork Mink Trail which is a pleasant enough climb up through the forest with flowery meadows and views of the surrounding mountains. We turned left on the gravel/dirt Scout Mountain Road and climbed this all the way to the tippy top of the mountain at 8700′! This climb is steady with loose rocks riddling the path but with smooth pedaling it was a decent climb. After some pictures, we headed back down the way we came and turned left on Crestline Trail.
Crestline Trail is rated intermediate but I’d preface that with the statement that if extremely narrow singletrack cut into the side of the mountain with steeeeep downslope to the side bothers you, this might not be your trail. It starts with a really long traverse along the flank of the mountain before the real downhill starts. It’s a beautiful trail with fast smooth flowy sections, some roots, some rocks, some jumps and lots of fun. It’s pretty dark back in the heavily treed forest so we didn’t take any pictures there. I really like this trail and we didn’t see anyone else on it.
We ended with a climb back up to camp and feel very deserving of our post ride beers.
