We are inching our way closer to Bend for a visit. After a quick ride around Phillips Lake where we were camped, we picked up and moved to the Ochocos. We are boondocking in the forest on familiar turf. Back when we lived in Bend we rode the Cougar Creek Trail as an out and back but since we left, there is a newly built trail that makes this a loop. Our ride was 12 miles with 2356‘ of climbing.
We started at the Scotty Creek Trail and took this downhill. The descent immediately dives into the forest and is fast and steep with some good views. It was our first re-glimpse of good old Mt. Hood since being back in Oregon. This descent is twisty and addictive. It drops in 2507′ in 4 miles. At the bottom we turned right on Cougar to climb back up. This is the part we rode before so I knew what we were in for. This climb is fairly relentless and steep in a lot of sections but it’s hard to focus on that when there is so much to see. The forest is beautiful, especially this time of year when it smells so sweet after some recent rains. We snapped some photos, reminisced about past times in the Ochocos,
