In January 2019 we spent our second night as full-time travelers in Beatty, NV and three years later, here we are again. We skipped a couple places we wanted to check out because the temps were too cold and there was snow. Flexibility is key and since we always boondock there’s no hassle with cancelling reservations or making new ones. We’re boondocking right here at the trail network which is VERY convenient.
I was able to get a couple hour ride in the evening we arrived and then the next day Derek joined me for a big loop that incorporated some new to us trails. Our ride was 22.4 miles with 2016′ of climbing. It might not look like it, but we’re up in high desert and topped out at almost 5000′ on our ride today. The best part….sunny and warm.
Of all the trails we rode this day, I liked Split Tail the best. It’s rated black diamond on Trailforks and that’s appropriate in a few spots. The trail is very narrow and rocky as it drops down into the little canyon. I was able to ride everything but a new rider would have to walk some spots. The views along the whole ride are wide open since we are in the desert.
This week is Derek’s birthday so we have some special beers we bought while we were in Bend that we’ll crack open over the next couple days.
