After a few months in Tucson visiting family we are on the move again. While living in our trail in Tucson we got used to not having to move it and scout spots. Our first spot out of Tucson wasn’t very far though; we are just past Oracle.
Our first day back on the road, we did a mountain bike ride that started out on the back road up to Mt. Lemmon in Oracle. We took the road up to Peppersauce Canyon and then a lesser double track loose rocky road up and up and up to the Arizona Trail. I would not recommend this route. The dirt/rock double track as a climb is impossible and we walked quite a bit. The views up there are wide open and expansive and the sun was out shining to cheer us on.
At the top, finally, we turned right onto the Arizona Trail. This section is black diamond and I agree with that ranking. The trail is quite chunky with loose rocks, very narrow, and pretty steep in spots. The sun was blazing over snowy Mt. Lemmon so the pictures didn’t do it justice. From high up on one of the ridges we could see Biosphere 2.
Would I do this ride again? No, but it was worth the adventure.
