Happy Autumn! You’ve probably seen me post about our rides here before. Spence Mtn is one of the premier mountain biking spots in the area. Klamath Falls is lucky to have this gem of a trail system. We spent a gorgeous fall afternoon riding here again and had a great time…except for all the webs all over Queen of the Lake Trail. Our ride was 20 miles with 2167′ of climbing.
Spence Mtn is beautifully laid out and built for all levels of riders. This time we went the opposite direction on Queen of the Lake Trail and got covered in some type of web that was draped over all the trees and bushes above the lake. Next up was a connector climb to North Star Trail and then Shoal Water Trail. The colors along the side of Old Eagle Trail where the lake shore used to reach was neat to see. Lots of birds hang out in these wetlands and our presence set off a mass movement as hundreds took off flying. So cool to see and hear.
We had a choice here of either going around Spence Peak or up and over. We chose up and over so this is where the sustained climb of the day was at around 5 miles and 1400′. It’s a gentle climb that zig zags up to Hooligan Trail which climbed for a wee bit more before descending all the way back to the start. It’s a very fun descent that makes for a great ending to the ride.
