Not every ride plan works. This time Derek had created a loop that ended up not working. BUT, that’s how life goes so you pivot. The ride started out on Knights Bridge dirt/sand road that isn’t far from where we are boondocking. The road is a bit rough but on a mountain bike it was easy. Unfortunately, the first 7.5 miles trended down 1200′ in sand and at that mile, Derek encountered a NO TRESPASSING sign. Booooo. So back up he climbed to meet up with the Continental Divide Trail that took him back to camp.
The good news is that it’s gorgeous back in that canyon. Even if you just rode out and back on the dirt road you get the reward of scenic rocky mountains and most likely solitude. The rocky Knight Peak is around 6539′ and towers over the valley making for some good pictures. The total ride was 20.8 miles with 2345′ of climbing.
Enjoy the pictures!
