Woods Canyon Lake Hike is a few miles from where we are boondocking for a couple weeks up on the Mogollon Rim in Arizona. We like lakes and figured we’d hike around this one.
The lake itself is fairly small at only 55 acres but the arms reach in and out of the canyon making the hike around it almost 4 miles. There are quite a few campgrounds leading into the lake and it’s popular for fishing and kayaking. We hiked it on a weekday so there were far fewer people on the water then you would encounter on the weekend.
The hike isn’t a wide smooth path, several sections are pretty feint and rocky so if accessibility is a challenge, this isn’t for you. I would definitely not ride it due to the numerous bouldery rocky sections. It’s a beautiful hike with unlimited options for stopping for a picnic, or just to sit and enjoy the water. We saw a lot of fish jumping and from April though September the lake is regularly stocked with rainbow trout and tiger trout.
Great shorter hike with a lot of payoff.
