Even though we lived in Bend for 16 years, we didn’t spend a whole lot of time on the coast or in the valley. As we travel north to the Olympic Peninsula we are stopping over in some new and old places. I hate driving. I know that sounds weird for someone who travels full time, but I do. So, we try to keep moving days short…a few hours. That makes for some stops in some interesting/different places. We spent a couple nights in Sutherlin, OR which falls along I-5 between Grants Pass and Eugene. It’s a sleepy little town that is very green this time of year.
We had some great weather and took an afternoon to hike around Cooper Creek Reservoir right on the edge of town. What a great place! The hike is about 6 miles of rolling up and down.. pretty easy overall. It’s lush and rainforest feeling in spots. We saw wild iris flowers growing, some red trillium, dogwood trees, slugs, plenty of ferns, and many other gems you’ll see in the pictures. Gobble gobble.
