The coast of Oregon has never been known for it’s mountain biking but there is some. Newport Trail Stewards, AKA NEWTS have been busy. We rode the Big Creek Trails one cool morning. The trails are located on city land, with the bike club building and maintaining the trails. The trails crisscross coastal forest habitat, climbing and descending through dense Sitka spruce and Douglas fir.
Our ride started and ended at Frank Wade Memorial Park which added on some extra gravel miles that took us past a couple small lakes. The Big Creek trail system is in its infancy and growing but has limited mileage right now. So, we did multiple laps to add on. The main downhill trail, Dude Sweet, is appropriately named because it was so fun with berms, rollers, flow, and jumps. It’s a short 1.2 mile climb back up Level Up so that you can rip downhill again. Repeat, repeat, repeat.
Have fun!
