I’ve posted about our rides on the Olympic Discovery Trail before but this is different. This is the Olympic Adventure Trail. It is part of the Discovery Trail only this is all dirt. We started at the small trailhead off 112 just past the Elwha River and rode out and back to just short of Lake Sutherland.
What I love about this trail is that there is a little of everything. We started in the dark forest with green things everywhere but before long we popped out into dry sunny dirt with views of the Olympic Mountains. We crossed over some streams, recent logging areas, and back into forest. The trail is fairly smooth with no real technical sections but there is a good amount of climbing. For the most part it’s gradual and I hardly noticed it until we turned around and came all the way back down.
I’ll definitely ride this again. It’s not just for riding though, we saw trail runners and hikers out enjoying this gem. So get outside!
