There are enough trails at Teanaway to ride more than once and we did. This time we incorporated a couple gravel road sections to get out to Mammoth Rock.
We got off to a rough start when the gravel road we initially took ended at a gate and private property sign. We weren’t sure if the road was ok to ride or what, but we found a trail further back up that skirted the area and followed and crossed a stream a few times before dumping out on a connector road. So with wet feet we continued the ride up to Mammoth Rock. It is just that, a mammoth rock! The trail to the top is pretty steep and will likely require hiking for most. But it’s a short section and the view on top of the rock is fun.
Back on the bikes we rocketed back the way we had come but turned on a series of gravel roads to get to River Ridge Trail, This section was really fun with slabs of rock and great views. Even a bear! We spotted a little cub that was wondering around alone (probably not alone) and seemed distressed. It was making a barking sound as if lost and looking for momma. We snapped a shot and got the hell outta there.
After a sandy descent and a couple gravel sections we hooked back up with BST and bombed back to the start. Second ride deemed a success after our faltering start.
