Cave Lake State Park in Ely, Nevada is normally a 32-acre reservoir but right now it’s undergoing construction to modernize it and there is a tiny puddle. Nevertheless, we did a FANTASTIC mountain bike ride there one day.
We rode the all the trails out here and they are pretty fun. These are intermediate trails with plenty of climbing, some pretty narrow tread, switchbacks, and high altitude. The trails have spectacular mountain views, with jagged rock formations. Square Top is a giant limestone formation that sits high on a hill and is easily identifiable. The trails were harder then we thought they would be and that was a good thing. Our ride was all between 7000 and 8600′!
