After our big Wasatch Loop Trail ride the day before, and given the impending afternoon storm, we opted for a shorter ride. East Fork Trail starts around 10,000′ and climbs up 1,426′. The climbing is never too steep and follows above the river, traversing meadows, skirting hillsides, and climbing through alpine forest.
We didn’t get to anything spectacular, this trail is mostly used to access the Colorado Trail as part of a bigger day. With rain threatening, we hit the intersect with the CT and turned around and descended back to our car. We came across a bow hunter who was hiking out and stopped to chat. He shared pictures of a giant black bear he’d seen a couple nights before up the hill in a meadow. I carry bear spray but we’re still pretty cautious and aware.
Back at camp we took the afternoon to clean the trailer and do bike maintenance… and drink deserved beers. 🙂
