Riding Zion National Park

National Parks are kind of a shit show these days. I think it’s just that I am so used to being away from cities and crowds that sometimes the whole scene is a little much. Late one afternoon we drove a few miles outside Zion National Park and rode the rest of the way to the end of the park. It was a nice easy scenic ride of 23.8 miles with 1253′ of climbing.

Riding in Zion is nice because after a couple miles in, only the shuttle buses are supposed to be on the road so there isn’t a lot of traffic. The caveat is that you must pull over if one comes up behind you. No biggie, at least we didn’t have to be crammed on a bus with people. The road is all paved except for a small section where you have to enter with the pedestrians on a trail. We timed it just right and there were no people at the pedestrian entrance so we zoomed right through.

The hard part of this ride is that there are SO MANY GOOD VIEWS! Towering cliffs, the river, impossibly green cottonwood trees, and more. What makes traveling by bike superb is that you can simply pull over and stop whenever you want, you aren’t forced to sit on a bus and look out the window. With the advent of ebikes I assume this will become more and more popular because the amount of people that can now get out in the fresh air and ride the park is increasing.
