As much as I liked our old Tundra, in order to get a larger trailer we had to upgrade to a newer model. Our old truck was good at towing our small trailer that we have now, but since we want a larger trailer for our travels we needed a newer one with a higher towing capacity. The new 2018 truck is rated for towing 9900 lbs versus the 7200 lbs that our old 2006 Tundra could tow. Even though the towing ability was our main reason for the upgrade to the new truck, we also got a few other cool new upgrades with it too that will be useful. We have a back up camera now to make hooking up the trailer a little easier. Like most new vehicles the Tundra has a touch screen with built in mapping that will make getting to new places easier then having to prop up a phone or rely on Heidi to try to figure out where we are going. Probably my favorite new feature of the new truck though is the 38 gallon gas tank. It seemed like we were constantly stopping to fill up with gas with the old truck. The 2006 Tundra had a 22 or 24 gallon tank and since we got around 10 to 13 miles a gallon towing the trailer it didn’t give us too much of a driving range. This new larger tank should save us from having to stop as frequently while we are traveling, which is good especially when we are in the middle of nowhere and we are hoping we can make it to the next gas station. Definitely looking forward to testing it out and getting it dialed in to fit our bikes and gear.
