Where did all this stuff come from?

Operation downsize is about to begin. The goal is to reduce our stuff to what we can fit into a 200 square foot trailer and pick-up truck. This isn’t an easy task since we have been together for 20 years and I tend to be an above average consumer. We have gotten rid of some of our stuff each of the three times we have moved over the years, but we still seem to have way too much stuff for two people. So now we are going through everything to see what stuff we really need and what we can donate or sell.

Once we get rid of all the stuff we don’t need, the small size of the RV should help keep my purchasing urges in check. I can see some of the allure of the tiny house or minimalist movement which they praise the freedom from consumerism and buying too much stuff. Both of these claim that freeing up the amount of stuff you have will also free up the time and money you spend on these items. It will be a change for me, but I am looking forward to finding out if less stuff equals more time for the stuff I enjoy.
