The last two days we rode the Rainbow Trail in Salida, Colorado. This trail is a black diamond or most difficult trail that is also used by hikers, horses and motorcycles. Some sections are really rocky, some are steep sidehill, some are loose, and some are smooth so it’s a little of everything. In its entirety it’s 100 miles but we only did 2 sections.
The first day we rode a loop of Little Rainbow, Columbine, Rainbow, and Double Rainbow. So much climbing! I didn’t feel like there was enough downhill for all my climbing effort though. I like how close to town all this fun singletrack is.
Day 2 was a 19 mile loop where we climbed up a gravel road and came down part of Rainbow. The trail wasn’t all downhill, like most sections of Rainbow, it climbs in places. There are really big views on this ride with forests, hillsides, and mountains. I really liked this section!
