Moab Week One Summary

We finally left Colorado and are spending a couple weeks in Moab, Utah. Derek and I have been coming to Moab for over 20 years and it never disappoints. As a bonus, our friend Kevin joined us for 4 days of riding and relaxing.

Klonzo Trails

As a warm up, Derek and I rode all the Klonzo trails from our camp spot. There isn’t anything very technical in the network, just fun and scenic singletrack with some slick rock and challenges sprinkled in. Plenty of the trails have fun names like Gravitron, Houdini, Boondocks, and Vertigo. It’s nice to be able ride right from camp because it leaves so much extra time for relaxing.

Fisher Towers Hike

Our last hike was 3 or so weeks ago in Telluride, to Hope Lake. We dusted off our hiking shoes and hiked Fisher Towers. It was about 5.5 miles and 2,000′ of climbing the way we did it. This hike features rock formations all over the place! Giant towers, huge cliffs, arches, towers, steps, a ladder, ridges… Amazing hike that constantly delivers big views. I didn’t find it difficult, but we’re down at less than half the elevation we have been at all summer so there is plenty of oxygen!

Mag 7 Trail

Kevin, Derek and I rode Mag 7 and added on the super short hike to Gemini Bridges. We parked by where Chisholm Trail crosses the road and started with  a little Mustang loop. Mag 7 is named for the original 7 trails it linked together. These trails are flowy, fast and fun. I’d classify the trails as technical with plenty of slick rock and steepness. Bike handling skills are a must!

Navajo Rock Trails

We spent two days riding the Navajo Rock trails. Kevin hadn’t ridden these before so we did loops to encompass everything. I like these trails because they are constantly interesting. Most of the riding is on slickrock and very doable. It’s a busy trail system but it helps that there are suggested directions for loops so at least most people should be going the same direction. I really liked Rocky Tops Trail for its more technical feel.
