We put our Annual National Park Pass to use again and went to Arches National Park while in Moab. The area was a National Monument to begin with back in 1929 but upgraded to a National Park in 1971. The park has over 2,000 arches!!! It’s a really popular park, really popular. So, we waited until the afternoon when most people were done.
From Devils Garden Trailhead Derek and I hiked about 8 miles out to see 7 arches and a giant pillar called Dark Angel. The first part of the hike was busy, but once you get to the primitive trail, it thinned out and was pleasant. There was a lot of rock scrambling and a bit of route finding and a whole lot of amazement. Everywhere we looked there were red rock pillars, fins, arches, and balanced rocks. Such a cool place.
Landscape Arch is the longest arch in North America with an opening of 306 feet but only 6 feet in diameter at its narrowest. Was it our favorite? Probably, but it’s hard to pick!
