We’re camped at the edge of wilderness so there is a giant area where bikes aren’t allowed. We took another day to hike up to Fremont Saddle and along the Cave Trail in a big loop. The loop was a around 6.5 miles with 2,000′ of climbing with all our add ons.
The hike up from the Peralta Trailhead was a bit busy and then we realized it was Veteran’s Day and people had the day of from school or work. It’s a well traveled trail that winds through rocky terrain up to the Fremont Saddle. Here is where we ditched everyone else and went down a much harder and more primitive way. We hiked around first to get a better view of Weaver’s Needle, and then descended the Cave Trail.
Cave Trail is an unofficial trail and there aren’t any signs for it. Using the AllTrails App we were able to find our way. The trail involved a lot of hiking down steep rock slabs and scrambling. We kept oohing and ahhing at all the interesting rock formations. What a cool hike.
