We’ve come full circle and are back in Tucson for the holidays. I’m fortunate to have family here and a place to park our trailer and stay. It’s great to talk to someone besides each other!
Since we have been here before and ridden most of the trails, we probably won’t do as extensive or often blog posts. However, there are still plenty of things to see and do that are new. I’ve been out on my gravel bike a few times already just exploring town. I took the paved bike loop south to Pistol Hill and climbed around in that area one day, and rode up into the Catalina Foothills another day. I like to just get on my bike and go. Such freedom. Plus, it’s in the mid 80’s so i don’t have to bring a jacket, or arm warmers, or leg warmers. Derek and I rode a new to us section of the Arizona Trail one day.
Arizona Trail
We drove south to the Gabe Zimmerman Davidson Canyon Trailhead and rode a 20 mile out and back to Pistol Hill Road. What a great flowy trail. It’s 100% singletrack and winds past Colossal Cave Mountain Park. On our way back we rode up to the Gift Shop/Visitors Center and this is where I got my flat tire. I sliced the sidewall of my tire on a sharp rock and even though I have Stan’s Tire Sealant, it didn’t seal. Normally it’s no big deal, I’d just throw a tube in and be on our way. Except…my tires themselves are full of little cactus spines and thorns and if I threw a tube in, it would be instantly full of holes. So, I had to take the road back and Derek took the trail and came and picked me up. I was able to pump it up, ride a few hundred yards, and pump it up more…UHG.
The Tour of Tucson is this coming weekend so the town is going to be teeming with cyclists!
