After two years of life on the road full time and consistently hard days of riding we are taking some time off the bike to recover. Staying in our trailer on family property in Tucson, we’re getting in some much needed rest.
Luckily we have spent the entire pandemic quarantined so we are able to stay here and visit with equally quarantined family safely. What a true gem. I spend mornings visiting over coffee and and fancy breakfasts, and lunches and dinners outside on the patio surrounded by a multitude of plants. The winter garden is enormous with broccoli, peas, spinach, radishes, chard, Asian greens, arugula, carrots, beets and so much more!
Every day I walk for at least an hour around the neighborhood turning this way or that down different streets. It’s nice enough weather that I can always wear shorts though I’ve been drizzled on once. Derek comes with me every so often but he has been busying doing some repairs and a couple upgrades to the trailer and our bikes.
In the evenings we watch movies or sit around the chiminea burning mesquite from the yard and swapping stories over Amaretto or whiskey. We’ve been here almost a month and yet it seems like just the other day that we arrived.
The other day we hiked out on the Arizona Trail from Molina Basin Campground. It was around 7 miles with a couple thousand feet or more of climbing…a little more demanding then we intended but it was desolate and quiet. The desert in winter is wonderful!
