Derek and I are still in Tucson enjoying “winter”. It seems I have a pesky case of tennis elbow that is hanging on as long as possible. Even though I’m not riding, I get outside and walk or hike every day. There are a bazillion trails to hike and winter is a perfect time when it’s warm and not deathly hot.
A recent highlight was hiking Wild Burro out by Dove Mountain. It’s about 6.8 miles with 1397′ of climbing. Most of the climbing is at the beginning as you hike some rugged rocky terrain. The trail kind of follows the ridgeline a bit as you get further back in to the Tortolita Mountains.
The descent is short but steep as we climbed down into the wash and Alamo Spring. From this point the trail follows the wash back to the start. I didn’t get a picture because they ran, but a pack of javelina were rooting around. It seemed appropriate that we saw them very close to the intersection with Lower Javelina Trail.
We’ve been fattening up on lots of great meals. Derek made a fig and apricot stuffed pork loin for Christmas, and we all made tamales for Christmas Eve. YUM!
