You find mountain biking in the most unlikely places sometimes! Derek and I rode the Jackrabbit Trail system in Overton, Nevada on two separate days and they are fun. Both days we rode around 15 miles with 1800′ of climbing. The trails aren’t extremely technical, just fast and fun singletrack as you wind around.
The trail system isn’t huge but the trails are purpose built and flow perfectly. The terrain is rolling hills with a couple sustained climbs here and there…enough to rack up 1800′. The system is signed well with laser machined cool signs that you can see in the pictures. I think this is the first place I’ve seen a female cyclist on a trail sign!
Our favorite trails were Stars and Stripes where you climb up to a giant flag, Lookout Lollipop, and Black Lunge. Most of the trails are rocky with Black Lunge being the most technical and even then, I’d rate it intermediate. This isn’t a destination trail system, but if you’re in the area to visit Lake Mead or Valley of Fire I recommend bringing your bike and checking out these trails.
Someone put a lot of work into the signage!
I know! it was impressive.
Where is this bike trail located in Overton?
North end of the Moapa Valley off of Waterline Rd.
Thanks for the writeup. I go to Mead a lot and will make a bike trip now.
Is the dispersed camping near this trail system? I’ve seen info on dispersed camping in Logandale but didn’t see anything that talks about how close this trail system is to it.
We camped south of Overton off of Sand Mine Rd. There is also camping at Poverty Flats and Snowbird Mesa which is on Campendium and Google maps. I am not sure if you can camp by the trails. I didn’t see anyone camped in that area.
