Our last hike in Goblin Valley was through Crack Canyon. This canyon is in the southern part of the San Rafael Swell and requires a short drive down Behind the Reef Road. It’s a 4wd road but nothing too gnarly. I saw some sedans driving it. The hike is relatively short at just almost 5 miles but worth it for the solitude and beauty. We only encountered one other couple on our hike.
The hike starts in a fairly wide canyon that funnels down at least 3 times into narrow slots. There are a couple drops to negotiate, some have go arounds. Even if you don’t make it all the way to the end, you still get to see some incredible scenery. The complex medley of textures and colors makes this hike worth it and I’d highly recommend it. At one point the rock slot canyon walls curve up over almost creating a tube like feeling.
We’ve had a good week long stay here and would definitely visit again.
