We took a leisurely walk up Temple Fork Trail from camp one morning. Our hike was around 6 miles and followed the creek the whole way. Past the second bridge we turned left and headed up the canyon into thicker forest. We passed by several beaver dams and lots of greenery.
Sawmill
Temple Fork buzzed with activity in the 1870 and 1880s when a logging camp and sawmill operated from within this hollow. Crews of 20-30 sawyers, mill hands, and teamsters produced more than 2.5 million board feet of lumber at this site. The timber was used to construct the Mormon Temple and Tabernacle in downtown Logan. The mill has since burned down, but there were a couple pieces of equipment and a commemorative monument at the site. On the weekend this trail must get a lot of use since is relatively easy and so close to water but on a weekday morning we only saw 4 other hikers.
