Grand Targhee Resort has enough mountain bike trails to ride several days and we spent today riding a close version of the first loop of a big 100 mile race they hold here in August. Our ride was 19.1 miles with 2517′ of climbing and we topped out at 9701′ for ridiculous views of the entire earth.
We started by climbing to the top of the entire mountain on a trail called Tall Cool One. This trail switchbacks up with nice traverses in and out of trees as you steadily climb to the top of the entire mountain. There are phenomenal views of the base area waaay below, and off the backside of Beard Mtn, and Littles Peak. After all this climbing, we dropped into Sidewinder for a downhill only rowdy descent. It’s very fast with plenty of winding turns and interesting views.
There are great trail signs at most intersections so you can see where you are and what your options are which is quite helpful because the resort has so many trails and options. At the bottom we turned and climbed up Andy’s, did a loop of Buffalo Soldier, and came back to the base area on Action Jackson. This last loop offered some pretty cool meadow views with wildflowers and a remote feeling. We arrived back at the base satisfied with another great day of riding.
