After a long spell of some really hard riding, we decided to take a week off and recover. We are camped along the Snake River and Palisades Reservoir in Swan Valley, Idaho. We spend most days lounging around reading with the occasional dip in the river or reservoir.
Fall Creek Falls is a short distance from where we are boondocking and worth checking out. It’s located right off the gravel forest service road that runs along Snake River by Irwin, Idaho. Really, you can’t miss it because it’s right off the road. Lots of websites will claim that it’s not popular and you probably won’t see anyone here but don’t believe that. There will almost surely be one or two other people here. No biggie.
This multi-tiered waterfall plunges 60 feet down to the Snake River and is a gem. The path getting down into it is more precarious. We used a rope that was tied to a small bush and scrambled down. Snake River in this area is lined with immense cottonwoods and trust me, the water is cold! The river is running fast right now at 16,300 cfs which is 14% above normal. Plenty of folks were out fishing and I even saw a couple river rafters enjoying the warm day on the water.
