Derek and I celebrated our 22 year wedding anniversary the other day and spent the day at Palisades Reservoir and Melvin Brewery. Palisades Reservoir was completed in 1957 to provide irrigation water, flood control, and recreation. Supposedly it supplies irrigation water to more than 1.1 million acres or about 19,000 farms. We drove right down onto the sandy shore, pulled out chairs and relaxed. The water was quite refreshing on the 90 degree day we were there. This is a very popular place for all kinds of water fun.
Melvin Brewery was a delicious treat. Melvin Brewing was born in the back of a Thai restaurant in 2009 when founder, Jeremy Tofte, decided to bring beers to Jackson, WY. After winning Small Brewpub of the Year at Great American Brew Festival in 2015 they opened a 30 barrel production facility 45 minutes away in Alpine, WY. This is the brewpub we stopped in at to enjoy some tasty adult beverages. We sat at a table outside and enjoyed some beers you can’t get in a can at the store. First up was the delicious Irish stout called Paddy O’Furniture. Next up was Velvet Rut, an imperial smoked porter. By definition, velvet rut is any locale, especially a smaller city, with few opportunities for career advancement that traps its inhabitants with its laidback lifestyle. Seems about right to me. Hubert was our third beer and they call this a Melvin Pale Ale but it drinks more like an IPA. Lastly we drank Juice Theorem, a juicy hazy tasting, but clear crisp IPA. Ahhhhhhhh.
Happy Anniversary to us.
