We don’t like driving. After leaving Oracle we drove about 1.5 hours to our next two week spot in Gold Canyon. This time we took a different route up through Superior on a steep ascent. I was curious what that are looked like after reading Oak Flats last year. I didn’t get any pictures of it, but first we passed by Ray Mine. The mine is a HUGE open pit and has one of the largest copper reserves in the United States.
Our boondocking spot is essentially right on the trail network here so riding is very convenient. This also means our pictures will all look the same for the next couple weeks. We have ridden all the trails here before so we don’t have to spend as much time planning routes. Rains this winter aided the greenness of the mountains and the start of blooming ocotillos and yellow flowering bushes. All the pollen is causing a bit of trouble for Derek and I!
A family of Gambel’s quail visit daily, the local coyotes are VERY active, and then moon out here is huge! Anyway, enjoy the sunny, warm pictures.
